Dr. RIPON DEY, A Manager, Department of Nanofab Department, also Principal Nanofab Scientist, previously Senior Staff Scientist in the R&D department at Authentix, which is a leading company in emerging technology and product development around the globe. He currently leads the nanofabrication group, at ATX in Burnaby office. Previously, he was involved in Nanotechnology research as a research scientist, and a post-doctoral research associate at Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN) in Canada. With 10 years cleanroom research experience, his research is focused on nano- and microstructure fabrication using nanoimprint lithography and electron beam lithography, and thin film deposition and etching techniques, with device applications in biomedical, energy, photonics and other nanotechnology areas. In particular, he pioneered the research in fabrication of high aspect ratio tip in nanodevice technology, and his team developed a process for conducting electron beam lithography on irregular, non-planar surface, which is published in Nanotehcnology, IOP. He has also carried out significant research on diffractive, plasmonic nanostructures, nano-sensors based on biomedical devices, reflective display etc with applications in monochromatic display.

He is the founder of Shoily foundation, a pioneering non-profit that is redefining science education. An Waterloo-trained engineer and scientist, he won the WIN fellowship award and holds numerous patents on revolutionary nanotechnologies. His research—published in top-tier journals such as ACS—has seeded new fields in nanofab, Photonics, and silicon technologies. Under his leadership, METAmaterials nanofab team has received the best originatio award.

He has published 30+ peer-reviewed journal articles, 8+ patents , two book chapters, as well as many preceding conference papers. He is the winner of the 2014 WIN fellowship Research Excellence Award (Faculty of Engineering, University of Waterloo). He is the certified reviewer of Springer Nature Group (Nature) and senior reviewer for the journal Microelectronic Engineering. As well, he is a member of IEEE and American Vacuum Society.

Dr. Dey received his BS in Physics from Shah Jalal University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Followed by his undergrad, he moved to the University of Western, Canada, where he earned his master’s degree in Surface Science Physics in 2010, then he moved to the University of Waterloo, Canada, and earned his PhD in 2003 from the Waterloo Institute For Nanotechnology, Department of Electrical & and Computer Engineering. After completing his PhD, Dr. Dey joined the Waterloo Institute For Nanotechnology, Canada, as research fellow. Dr. Dey then joined in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Nanotechnology Engineering program) in 2019 as a Research Scientist.

Dr. Dey’s research is focused on MEMS/NEMS Engineering, Nano-electronics, Material Engineering, Nano-sensor, nano- and microstructure fabrication with applications in biomedical, nano-electronic and other areas.

He was one of the early developers of the first Bangladeshi Bangla language software, “Byanno”. He loves Badminton, fina arts, travelling, blogging etc.
